A woman doesn’t always want
or need to carry a handbag.
She doesn’t want to worry about losing it,
someone stealing it, or where to put it.
And for the few items
she can’t leave home without,
she doesn’t want bulges in her pockets.
She may not even have pockets.
The Bucklette® was created and designed by Sandy Alexander, a Philadelphia-based graphic designer, artist, entrepreneur and founder of Dessa Lea Productions.
While single and living in Center City Philadelphia, Alexander was always on the go. Frequently running from work to a night out, she learned a quick change of clothes and "just the essentials" were necessary — lipstick, money, ID and house key.
Rather than a cumbersome handbag, Alexander carried a "wristlet" or an "under-the-shoulder" bag, but it typically ended up sitting on a table, hanging off a chair or on the floor.
While at a restaurant one evening, a friend’s purse was stolen, inspiring Alexander to create an accessory that would free women from the worry and inconvenience of carrying "the bag."
"I wanted a hands-free, worry-free, fashionably correct accessory just for the essentials. Something much more sleek and stylish than a fanny pack," said Alexander. "Since there were no chic alternatives on the market, I set out to create something beautiful — equivalent to a slim clutch or a cool piece of jewelry. No more hiding lipstick in my cleavage."
